Core concepts

How Flash works

Flash combines your hardware design, firmware, datasheets and project instructions to help you investigate, make changes and verify the result on the board.

01 / CONTEXT

What Flash knows

Your hardware design, firmware, FLASH.md, components and datasheets, plus the conversation you are in.

02 / AGENT

How the work gets done

A mode for how the agent works, and your approvals for what it may do.

03 / EVIDENCE

What really happened

Builds, programming, debugger state and serial output from the board.

A shared foundation

Every task follows the same loop: prepare the project with /init, give a focused task, review what Flash asks to do and check the evidence. It works the same in Flash CLI, Flash IDE and VS Code.

Three independent controls shape that loop. The mode decides how the agent works, approvals decide what it may do without asking, and context is what it knows about your project. Each conversation keeps its own history on top of that context; see Sessions and context.

Understand the essentials

Put it to work

Use the Debugging overview to inspect your board, or follow the tutorial to create a project, implement a sensor driver and check its readings.
